About Trail
Succesful AI systems require understanding of complex biology, careful engineering and ease at deployment at industrial scale. Trail builds tools for research, public health and biotechnology partners where LabOps, multi-omics data, ML models, and AI capabilities operate as a unified system.
The Role
We are looking for a Data Scientist who thrives at the intersection of biology, data, and intelligent systems. You will help transform fragmented biomedical and clinical data into structured insight—powering AI agents, and decision-support systems.
This is not a pure modeling role. It is a systems-thinking role. You will work across data pipelines, experimentation, evaluation, and real-world deployment to ensure our models are scientifically rigorous, reliable, and useful in practice.
What You’ll Do
Develop and implement science foundation models,
Develop and implement generative AI strategies for chemistry and protein science
Integrate multi-modal biological data
Ensure that AI-generated results, models, and agent outputs are traceable, reproducible, and documentable for future regulatory filings, due diligence, and intellectual property protection.
Contribute to agentic AI and data science strategy
Evaluate and manage external AI tools and partnerships
Collaborate with engineers, bioinformaticians, and product leads to translate research into production
Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Help shape internal best practices for scientific rigor, reproducibility, and model governance
What We’re Looking For
MSc or PhD in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, or related field
Strong foundation in statistics and machine learning
Experience with Python and common ML/data libraries
Experience working with biomedical, clinical, or life sciences data
Ability to move between exploration, modeling, and implementation
Clear thinking, structured communication, and intellectual flexibility
Comfort working in ambiguity and building from first principles
Nice to Have
Experience evaluating LLM-based or agentic systems
Familiarity with healthcare data standards
Startup or early-stage experience
Why Join Us
Work on pressing high-impact Global Health challenges with some of the world's most reputed organizations in the domain
Shape how AI is responsibly integrated into clinical and scientific workflows
Join a small, focused, and highly accomplished team working on the frontier of biology and AI
You’ll be supported by knowledgeable, approachable colleagues and have plenty of opportunities to learn and expand your perspectives
